State Lottery Offers Free Gas for Life as Prize
7/14/2008

Everyone wants to win the lottery. But in the Florida Summer Cash promotion, the second-place contestant may turn out to be the real winner.

While the grand-prize winner will be presented with a none-too-shabby check for $250,000, the second prize winner will receive a gift that could be even more valuable in this day and age: free gasoline for life.

"If gas keeps going up and up — and I expect it will — then I'd rather have free gas for life," one Summer Cash contestant, Robert Acosta, told the New York Times.

Unfortunately, the Florida Lottery won't be footing the bill for every $10-a-gallon gas purchase you might be buying a decade from now, if it comes to that – the prize does have its catches. Instead, the winner will be given 26 $100 prepaid gas cards every year for the rest of his life.

Needless to say, the prize probably won't cover your bill on a permanent basis if fuel prices keep rising at their current rate, but at the very least, it's sure to provide a good cushion from the horrific vision you face every time you fill your tank.
