Hi there - thanks for stopping in! Here’s a little more about Gimundo and the people behind it.

First of all, it’s pronounced “ji-mun-do.” It’s a word coined by Gimundo’s founders that means, “a better world.”

We’re Kathryn and Jeff Hawkins, the owners and publishers of Gimundo. We live in the Portland, Maine area with our two-year-old daughter, Leah, who is, indisputably, the coolest person in the world. And we love good news. Don’t you?

Kathryn started working as Gimundo’s editor shortly after its launch in 2006, under a Los Angeles-based startup company. From the start, she loved Gimundo’s mission, and appreciated the chance to bring a little joy to people’s inboxes every day.

After the startup disbanded, and the site was left vacant for months, we bought the assets of Gimundo.com, wiped off the dust, and relaunched the site all by ourselves, just hoping our old fans would come back.

They did in spades, and lots of their friends hopped on the wagon too. We now have around 10,000 subscribers to our daily newsletter, and receive up to 400,000 unique visitors each month. We’re thrilled to see that there is a genuine market for good news and stories about people making a difference in the world.

Gimundo’s been mentioned in publications including The Washington Post, The Seattle Times, Redbook, and The Columbia Journalism Review, and we’ve been involved in content partnerships with Huffington Post, Divine Caroline, Guideposts, Tonic, and EcoSalon. We’ve also worked with companies and organizations including Maxwell House, Ogilvy and Mather, Lybba, the Starkey Hearing Foundation, and Sharffen Berger Chocolates.

Kathryn is the site’s editor-in-chief, responsible for writing stories, managing and editing freelance writers, and managing content partnerships, and Jeff is responsible for website development and technical elements. We also provide custom content strategy and marketing services to many additional brands through our consulting agency, Hawkins Multimedia.
