Some people count down the days until they’re eligible for retirement. Not Sally Gordon: though she could have clocked out decades ago, this stylish 101-year-old still loves to put on her bright red jacket and go to work every day.
The Lincoln, Nebraska native works as a sergeant-at-arms for the Nebraska Legislature, and is responsible for passing messages from lobbyists to senators during floor debates. Throughout her decades of work for the state government, she’s worked for three governors and met President Lyndon B. Johnson, Sen. Robert Kennedy, and actors Shirley MacLaine and Charlton Heston. And now, she’s been honored for her service with America’s “Outstanding Oldest Worker” award from the non-profit group Experience Works.
Although Gordon could have stopped working a long time ago, she loves all the new experiences she’s gained throughout her working life, and has no desire to sit around at home.
“Life is very precious,” she told Southwest Iowa News. “You have to use every moment.”
