Another Reason to Eat Girl Scout Cookies

They taste good, they support a worthy cause, and now they have no almost no trans fats. Time to buy several more boxes!

The Girl Scouts have made it easier to feel good about buying their cookies this year: All varieties now contain less than half a gram of trans fat, which has been linked to heart disease.

Girl Scouts of the USA Vice President Denise J. Pessich promised that the new cookies wouldn’t compromise taste. They also have given troops the opportunity to talk about the importance of eating right.

The Girl Scouts, which have been raising money through cookie sales for 90 years, also will offer a sugar-free cookie called the Little Brownie.

In the interest of full disclosure, it should be noted that most Girl Scout cookies still contain plenty of sugar and saturated fat. “Like any snack food, you talk about moderation,” Pessich said. “We know we aren’t selling broccoli.”
