Boy Discovers Diamond Rings in Toilet Bowl
While sticking his hand in the family toilet to retrieve a fallen toothbrush, a boy discovered 2 diamond rings that the house's previous owner had lost.
If given a choice, most of us wouldn’t go sticking our hand inside a toilet. But last week, when 10-year-old Cameron Delande of Chatham, Massachusetts, accidentally dropped his toothbrush inside the bowl, he decided to stick his hand in to retrieve it. (We can only hope he wasn’t planning on using the toothbrush again after that.)
While he was down there, Delande stumbled upon a surprise –and not the sort you’re thinking. He discovered two diamond rings wedged inside the bowl, which had been stuck there for over 10 years, since the previous owner lived there. After giving the rings a good cleaning, Delande and his family immediately set out to find the woman who had lived in their house before them so that they could return the rings, which were covered with four diamonds that weighed more than a carat.
As it turned out, the previous owner had recently passed away. But her daughter, Mary Trainor, was thrilled to receive her mother’s long-lost rings. She told the family that her mother had taken them off while cleaning the bathroom years ago, and accidentally flushed the toilet without realizing that her jewelry had fallen in.
Amazingly, the rings had stayed in the toilet tank all this time, despite countless flushings over the years. “It’s just bizarre,” Cameron’s father, Bill Delande, told WBZTV. “I’ve snaked that toilet so many times. When you have four kids, things get stuck in there, believe me.”
We still can’t say that fishing for treasures in a toilet bowl would ever top our list of fun weekend activities –but considering this case, it might not be such a bad idea to glove up every once in a while.
