Lukas the Genius Horse Wins Guinness World Record
A horse named Lukas knows more than 35 tricks. Finally, one of them has gotten him entry into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Lukas, a thoroughbred gelding from Chino Hills, Calif., knows how to do much more than walk, trot, and jump. Among his many talents, he knows how to distinguish between different shapes, spell his name, and identify numbers. And finally, he’s received an honor worthy of his skills: a Guinness World Record.
The Guinness Book doesn’t have a “smartest horse category,” so Lukas had to settle for “Most Numbers Correctly Identified by a Horse in One Minute,” identifying 19 numbers in the space of 60 seconds.
Although Lukas didn’t know what was in store for him, he worked hard at the feat during his June record-setting attempt. “I do believe he wanted to his best. He was very focused and able to concentrate during the attempt,” his owner and trainer, Karen Murdock, told AOL News.
And if Murdock has anything to do with it, Lukas’ name is going to be a frequent presence in the Guinness Book from now on. “We’re going to keep practicing,” she said. Hopefully, she’s got plenty of carrots on hand.
Check out Lukas in action.
