New Free Job Listing Service .Jobs Aims to Cut American Unemployment Rate
A new nonprofit organization, .jobs, created by the Monster.com founder, provides free job listings to American companies and helps the unemployed find the right position for them.
Out of work? You’re not the only one: The national unemployment rate is still a whopping 9.4 percent.
But the problem may not be a lack of jobs—plenty of companies are hiring. They’re just having trouble letting people know about all of their positions. It typically costs $400 to list a job on a major job-search site like Monster.com, “which means that for most companies, only about ten percent of their open jobs actually get listed,” Bill Warren, founder of Monster.com, told the Christian Science Monitor.
Warren believes a lot more people could find work, if only they knew where to find it. So he’s doing something to help.
Warren is creating a new job listing service on the .jobs domain, which is a non-profit that allows all companies to post jobs for free. The organization has more than 40,000 job categories, and is sure to soon host millions of job listings. To find the job in your area of expertise, just fill in the category with the .jobs domain, i.e., healthcare.jobs or engineering.jobs.
It’s too early to tell, but hopefully, this new model will go a long way towards getting Americans back to work.
