‘Paperclip’ Guy Offers House in Trade

Two years ago, a man traded up from a red paperclip to a house. Now, he's ready to move - and he's willing to trade the house in for a better offer.

Two years ago, a 28-year-old Canadian, Kyle MacDonald, made international headlines when he managed to barter his way to a new house - using a single red paperclip as his initial bargaining tool.

He traded his way up to a Coleman stove, which he traded for a power generator, and kept on swapping for items of higher and higher value, including a year’s free lodging in Phoenix, an afternoon with Alice Cooper, and a role in a feature film. A small Canadian town, Kipling, decided to offer MacDonald a three-bedroom house in exchange for the film role - not a bad deal for the price of a paperclip.

Now, MacDonald and his wife are ready for a move. With his wife’s job in Montreal, “we realized we’re not going to spend a lot of time in Kipling and it would be sad to leave the house empty,” he told CNEWS.

So, he’s doing the natural thing: Until July 11th, MacDonald and his wife will be entertaining trade offers for the house. We’re not sure what they’ll be willing to accept, but it’ll probably be a bit beyond the cost of an office supply this time around – though you could always try your luck offering a stapler and see how far that gets you.
