In Once and The Swell Season, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova Make Beautiful Music Together

The new film "Once" is a fascinating reflection on a unique relationship that just happens to be filled with some of the most stunningly beautiful songs you'll ever hear. Already seen it? Then check out the talented duo's album, "The Swell Season."

The guy is a down-on-his-luck vacuum repairman who spends his free time busking on the busy streets of Dublin, still bitter over an ex-girlfriend’s betrayal. The girl, a young single mother from the Czech Republic, sells magazines and roses on street corners, and skips lunch every day for the chance to play piano at a local instrument shop. The two don’t have much in common other than their love of music – but that proves to be the most powerful connection of all in Once, a quiet gem of a film about a brief, magical encounter between two lonely souls.

You could call it a musical, but some might consider that an insult – this remarkable film is worlds away from the exaggerated showiness of Moulin Rouge or Chicago. Rather, it’s a fascinating reflection on a unique relationship that just happens to be filled with some of the most stunningly beautiful songs you’ll ever hear.

Once is now available on DVD, so you can watch the magic unfold as often as you like. The unforgettable soundtrack is just a click away on Itunes or you can buy the CD here.

Are we preaching to the converted? If you’ve already seen the film and loved it (as we knew you would), you might already have the soundtrack – but did you know the film’s two talented stars, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, have recorded another exquisite album together called The Swell Season? If Once wasn’t enough for you, buy the mp3s or CD.
