78-Year-Old Teaches Would-Be Mugger a Lesson

A mugger should have known better than to mess with Pearline Williamson. The 78-year-old woman may have looked frail - but she sure can fight.

When the young female thief attempted to steal Williamson’s purse while the elderly woman was doing some shopping in London, Williamson didn’t let her get away with it. Instead, she broke into a run to chase down the mugger, and confronted her once she caught the young woman. “She said she hadn’t taken it at first, so I shook the life out of her until she finally gave it back,” Williamson told the Telegraph.

Williamson’s no-nonsense approach was no surprise to those who know her - particularly her grandson, Simeon Williamson. “She can be very friendly but also pretty scary when she wants to be – you wouldn’t have wanted to be the thief.”

Simeon himself is a world-class sprinter and Olympic hopeful - so he can obviously thank his grandmother for passing along the speedy gene.

“She’s from a different generation and had to work for everything she has, so if someone takes what’s hers then she will defend it,” Simeon said. “It’s that sort of stubborn belief that makes you a champion and that’s exactly what she is.”
