Couple Gets Married in Shark Tank

April Pignataro and Michael Curry recited their wedding vows underwater, in front of sharks at New York's Atlantis Marine World.

It’s wedding season, and you’re probably attending your share of nuptials this year—but, unless you were invited to the wedding of April Pignataro and Michael Curry, you probably haven’t shared the special occasion with a tankful of sharks.

Pignataro and Curry, of New York City, decided to turn down the traditional tux and white dress in favor of wet suits, and recite their vows at the bottom of the Lost City of Atlantis Shark Tank at Atlantis Marine World on Sunday, June 6th.

Sure, it’s a bit unusual, but they’re both experienced divers, and loved the idea of a truly unforgettable ceremony.

“We both love the ocean, we love the water ... and yes, the idea of an underwater wedding, not to mention one surrounded by sharks at an Aquarium, is different and unique, but that is also exactly who we are,” Pignataro told NBCNewYork.

Most of the ceremony was held above-water, but when it came time for the pair to recite vows, they put on their wetsuits and face masks and sank down to the bottom of the tank, where their words were broadcast to their guests and pastor, who wanted to stay dry.

The ceremony was witnessed by assorted sea creatures including sand tiger sharks, nurse sharks, moray eels, and a Queensland grouper. However, we’re guessing they weren’t invited to the reception.
