Disposable Diaper Saves Baby’s Life

Parents have always known that a baby’s life would be a whole lot messier without diapers around - but now, it seems, they’re literally lifesaving devices.

It started out as the kind of horror story no parent can bear to hear: Last week, an eighteen-month old boy in Recife, Brazil crawled up on top of the sofa while his parents weren’t looking, and toppled straight through the window, to the ground 30 feet below.

Amazingly, the toddler, Caua Felipe Massaneiro, survived the long drop - thanks to a disposable diaper.

While airborne, the child’s diaper got caught on a security spike that came out of the building’s wall. He hung there for several minutes, but as the diaper eventually gave way, it served as a kind of makeshift parachute, giving the child a far more gentle landing.

“The diaper obviously lessened the impact of the fall and saved the baby’s life,” a police officer told the Associated Press.

The child didn’t get off completely free - he was treated in a local hospital for minor bone fractures - but otherwise, he is in stable condition and should be on his way to a full recovery.
