Donald and Julia Cole have been married 72 years. So how did they celebrate? With pizza.
Diamonds are the traditional gift for a couple’s sixtieth anniversary, if they’re lucky enough to make it that far. But what do you do for number 72?
Donald and Julia Cole, who just celebrated 72 years of matrimony, have decided on their own traditional gift: pizza. A “Bacon, bacon, bacon” pizza, to be exact, featuring bacon, Canadian bacon, and pepper bacon. It may not be the healthiest dish, but if you’ve lived as long as they have, you’re probably not too concerned about your cholesterol.
They didn’t make a big production out of the anniversary – they’ve had plenty of others. But they did take the time to reflect on the many years they’ve shared together.
“To some people, it would be a big deal, but we’ve had lots of years together—they’ve all been good ones,” Julia Cole told KPTV. “It doesn’t mean it was perfect, not by a long shot, but mainly, our lives have been real good.”
The couple has managed to stick together for so long by taking part in activities together. “We did a lot of fly-fishing for several years up and down the rivers,” she said.
