Faith, the Two-Legged Dog

Meet Faith, the amazing dog who walks on two legs.

When Faith, a chow mix, is lying down on the floor by her owner’s feet, she looks just like any other dog. But as soon as she stands up, it’s impossible not to take notice of this one-of-a-kind dog: Faith walks on two legs, just like a human.

Faith was born with a shriveled front left leg that had to be amputated, and a malformed right paw without a leg attached. Her owner, Jude Stringfellow, could have purchased one of the many rolling supports available for pets with mobility problems –but Faith didn’t need one. From a young age, she learned to jump up onto her back legs and walk wherever she needed to go. Now, Stringfellow is taking her two-legged marvel cross-country as an inspiring example of overcoming adversity.

“I want people to understand that you can be imperfect physically and still be perfect through your soul, through your spirit,” she told The Washington Post.

Faith’s fame has grown in recent years –along with trips to pet shows, hospitals, and homeless shelters, she’s appeared on Oprah and Montel, and is headed off to Istanbul this month. For those who meet her, it’s an unforgettable experience.

Larry Nixon, whose family is living in a homeless shelter in Manassas, Virginia after losing their home, was inspired after seeing Faith’s remarkable abilities. To him, the experience proved a powerful reminder that he’d be able to get back on his own two feet.

“That dog went through some pretty adverse situations,” he said. “We can do the same thing.”
