Most people seem to be equipped with an automatic remote that tunes out their spouses' nagging voices. But one man from Auckland, New Zealand, had no such luck --luckily for him, as it turned out.
Most people seem equipped with an automatic remote that tunes out their spouses’ nagging voices. But one man from Auckland, New Zealand, had no such luck—luckily for him, as it turned out.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, credits his wife’s whining for his $7.5 million Powerball win. “My wife had been nagging me all week to get a ticket, so I when saw the Lotto sign in Westgate (Mall) I sprinted in to get the ticket before they closed at 7 pm,” he told New Zealand’s Stuff. “I must have been their last customer of the night.”
The couple remained oblivious to their striking change in fortune until they went to a shop and realized they didn’t have enough cash to buy what they needed. They were planning to buy a Christmas present for one of their children, and “we are on a strict budget so were looking for the best possible deal,” he said. “My wife wanted to get a sausage as well, but I did not have any change. So I decided to check our ticket in case I had won a small prize.”
He was shocked to discover that he was holding the winning ticket. So was his wife.
“When she realised how much it really was, she fell to the floor, and then said `but all I wanted was a sausage’.”
With a windfall like that, we’re betting she’ll have all the sausages she wants for the rest of her life. And maybe her husband will realize that nagging isn’t always such a bad thing at all.
