Missing Conne Family Found After 6 Days Lost in Oregon Woods

After going missing for nearly a week in Oregon's Klamath Mountains, the Conne family was alive and well.

Last Saturday, the Conne family went out foraging for wild mushrooms from their campsite in Oregon’s Klamath Mountains. When Belinda, Daniel, and their 25-year-old son Michael didn’t make it back to camp that night, neighbors became worried and called officials.

Search-and-rescue officials travelled by foot and by helicopter in search of the missing family, but after six days with no sign of them, officials were beginning to give up hope that the family would be found. Curry County Sheriff John Bishop told the Associated Press that the county was preparing to send out a body-recovery team.

But yesterday, the three members of the Conne family stumbled out of the woods on their own, and were soon spotted by a search helicopter. They were hungry and dehydrated, and had suffered several minor injuries. But on the whole, they’d survived the ordeal remarkably well: They’d survived their time in the woods with no camping equipment by drinking stream water and spending the nights inside a hollowed-out tree.

They’re now being treated at a local hospital for their injuries, but they’ve told officials how grateful they are for the rescue.

“It’s a miracle, really,” Bishop told the Associated Press.
