Off-Duty Fireman Brant Baker Rescues Man from Burning Car

Off-duty firefighter Brant Baker saved the life of a motorist trapped in a car.

Brant Baker, a firefighter from Enfield, England, wasn’t wearing his fireman’s hat or safety gear when he spotted an overturned car full of smoke. But a fireman is always a fireman—and so he didn’t hesitate to rush to the motorist’s aid, risking his own life to save the man trapped inside the car.

It was lucky Baker arrived when he did: just seconds after he’d gotten the unconscious driver out of the vehicle, the car exploded. Baker had saved his life.

Baker downplays his heroic act, however. “I wasn’t in uniform, I was just an ordinary guy seeing someone in danger,” he told the Daily Mirror. “I would have tried to save him even if I wasn’t a fireman. I’m just glad this man’s mum has still got her son and his family aren’t grieving his death.”
