The ‘Gas Men’ Help Drivers Pay for Pricey Gas

Last week, "The Gas Men" handed out hundred-dollar bills to surprised patrons in the process of paying for their costly fuel purchases.

These days, when you go to fill up your car at the gas station, you can watch your next week’s grocery money tick away in a matter of minutes. Prices have skyrocketed, and, sad as it may be, it looks like the days of the $4 gallon could be here to stay.

But last week, seven lucky drivers in Plainville, Connecticut got a helping hand at the gas pump from two local superheroes. Decked out in sunglasses, baseball caps, and matching golf shirts, the duo, who called themselves “The Gas Men,” handed out hundred-dollar bills to surprised patrons in the process of paying for their costly fuel purchases.

One of the lucky recipients, Gayle Kilburn, wasn’t sure what to make of the oddly-dressed strangers as they approached her. But when they handed her the 100-dollar note and a business card that read, “Re-Fueling Our Community,” signed “The Gas Men,” her uneasiness turned into elation. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, I just got my gas paid for,” she told The Hartford Courant.

A cashier who worked at the gas station didn’t spot the two refueling superheroes, and seemed to doubt the veracity of their stunt. But Kilburn, for one, would beg to differ: “It was real money,” she said. “I used it to pay for the gas.”

So next time you hit the gas pump, keep an eye out - you never know when a superhero with a jumbo bank account might be lurking nearby.
