Ultramarathoner Beats the Clock by Six Seconds

Gunhild Swanson is the oldest woman to run the ultramarathon, and it was a nail-biter.

The Western States 100 is an ultramarathon that requires runners to cover, that's right, 100 miles. Attempting this feat in endurance sports is difficult for even the most fit 20-30 something, but to tackle the entire course at the age of 71 is record-breaking. But Gunhild Swanson didn't just make it the 100 miles, she cleared the finish line with only six seconds left before the race cuttoff, making her the final finisher and the first woman over seventy to complete the Western States 100. The crowd was clearly awaiting her arrival. Go Gunhild!
