Who Was Sir Nicholas Winton?

A modest hero, Sir Nicholas Winton has passed away at the awesome age of 106, leaving behind a well-honored story of deep sympathy and action. Watch as those he saved say thank you.

What can a 28 year old English stock broker en route to a ski vacation do against a growing Nazi occupation? Drop everything and go to Prague instead, of course. By placing newspaper advertisements and even paying families out of his own pocket, Nicholas Winton found foster care for 669 Jewish child refugees, and persuaded British custom officials to allow all the children in despite incomplete documentation. At the awesome age of 106, Sir Nicholas Winton died peacefully on July 1, the anniversary of the departure of the train carrying the largest number of his rescued children from Prague. This archived BBC video demonstrates the magnitude of his service to humanity.
